Fantastic dinner at La Tavola! I'm not sure how I've never been here before, but I'm glad we finally made it here. We decided to have an early dinner following a show at The Palace. Reservations can be made online - definitely a necessity, at least on the weekends. It was busy at 5:00 pm when we arrived for our reservation. Our server was Erin and she was just lovely! She helped with recommendations and was always there when we needed her! Thanks. Erin!!! There are three different seating areas to choose from. We picked the dining room, and we were happy with the choice. It was dim and cozy - but the vibe isn't quiet or stuffy, it was vibrant. We started with appetizers - I had the shrimp toast, which is not a typical app you see on menus. It was exactly my kind of dish. Three large shrimp, broccolini, and a piece of buttery grilled garlic toast all in a wonderful sauce. I could definitely eat that as a meal with an ice cold glass of Sauvignon blanc! My husband got the meatballs, which were very good. I'm a meatball snob, and these measured up. Nice and soft and flavorful, not dense or hard, sauce was fantastic. It's a large appetizer with 3 good sized meatballs and a dollop of ricotta - we saved some to take home. For entrees, I got the garganelli mushroom pasta, which hit the spot perfectly. They have a large selection of pasta dishes on the menu, and I can't wait to go back to try some of the others. My husband got the braised veal shank which is served with 3 truffle ravioli - that was also fantastic. We packed up at least half of our meals to save room for dessert. We were going to share one, but they sounded so good that we each got our own. He had the pistachio crème brûlée, which was piled high with fresh fruit. I went for the pineapple upside down cake which was a little individual cake, served warm, with a scoop of ice cream on top. Everything was great, from start to finish. They didn't rush us out, we were there for about 2 hours and 15 minutes and enjoyed the pace of our meal. It wasn't the cheapest, but it was worth every penny. Definitely a must try if you are looking for quality Italian food in Waterbury with good service and a nice ambiance. Mangia!

What a wonderful place! Was recommended after my usual go to in Waterbury was closed for vacation. Food was so beautifully displayed and menu was varied.I had never been in that area and it appeared very safe. The interior was very well appointed and clean. Our waiter Justin was very helpful when needed for choices. Will definitely go there again.

Cute patio and interesting interior. The bartender greeted us and was very friendly. Indoors was not large, but had eclectic decor. We visited for lunch, but I imagine it has a more inviting ambiance at night. Our server was excellent, however the braised chicken was underwhelming in the rigatoni scarpiello(sp?) I didnt enjoy my meal, but people I went with did, so I'm still giving 4 stars. I'd try again, and order something different next time.

Apparently, I'm one of the last people in the Waterbury area to have heard of La Tavola. Writer Friend and I were coming back from an event, felt a little hungry, and a quick search on Yelp suggested this place. Even though it was a Saturday, we were early enough to find seats at the bar, where Craig, the bartender, made us feel welcome. The atmosphere was very friendly and comfortable, reminding me of many of the restaurants I had patronized in Brooklyn. While the overall vibe was upscale and classy, you would not feel out of place in jeans. After a few cocktails, we ordered a few apps from the menu--we really weren't as hungry as we thought. Fried Calamari and garlic bread (WF made the decision) came out fast. The calamari was perfect and plentiful--enough for us to share. The garlic bread, covered in melted cheese was excellent, and she let me have one piece--she claimed the rest for herself. If, for no other reason, we'd go back just for that. One small note--the restaurant is known for its wine cellar, over which they have a window where you can look down into it. If you want a classy, but casual vibe, then La Tovola is the perfect place!
